Two headers from Branislav Ivanovic helped give Chelsea a 3-1 win at Anfield.

The Serbian defender - only playing because of the injury to first-choice right-back Jose Bosingwa - scored his first goals in a Blue shirt as Guus Hiddink's team brought the Reds fine run of recent form to a crashing halt.

Fernando Torres gave Rafael Benitez's side an early lead with a side-footed finish but two headers either side of half-time from Ivanovic and a Didier Drogba strike put Chelsea into the driving seat ahead of next week's return leg at Stamford Bridge.

In the other quarter-final on Wednesday night, Barcleona thrashed Bayern Munich 4-0 thanks to two goals from Lionel Messi and one each from Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry.

On Tuesday, Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by Porto, and Arsenal came away from Villarreal with a 1-1 draw.
